Gary Stebbins Bio

Gary Stebbins is a career educator and a leader in educational reform. He presently serves as Principal of Rogers Middle School in San Jose, where over the past seven years he spearheaded reforms in middle-level educational systems and processes. Gary has been instrumental in moving his school towards a "best practices" middle school by implementing such proven methods as language arts-reading-social studies core instruction, student-led conferences, and common planning time for teachers.

Gary previously worked as the Principal of the Santa Clara County Office of Education's Alternative Schools Department, as a Master Teacher at Santa Clara University, and as a teacher/administrator at many alternative schools. He has been a leader not only in his profession but also in the community, working as President of Partners in Education, Facilitator for the Curriculum Committees of the Santa Clara County Office of Education, and an active member of district technology and administration committees.

Gary received a BS in Biological Sciences-Conservation from Humboldt State University, a MA in Educational Administration from San Jose State University, a MEd from the College of Notre Dame and an EdD degree from The Fielding Institute. He is former Region 8 Representative of the Association of California School Administrators, a Board Member of the California League of Middle Schools and member of the Court School Educators Association.

Gary has a special interest in "at risk" students, and his motto is: "Give students what they need and they will thrive!"
